The Bentway: Site Lines with Doors Open Toronto presented by Great Gulf
May 26, 2018 @ 11:00 am - May 27, 2018 @ 4:00 pm
Join The Bentway’s Director of Programming, Ilana Altman, for tours of The Bentway as a part of Doors Open Toronto presented by Great Gulf.
Meet at the north-west corner of Bathurst Street and Fleet Street (by the Douglas Coupland statue)
600 Fleet St.
Running nearly two kilometres under the Gardiner Expressway, a new type of public space is taking shape. What was once vacant land rendered obsolete by industrial use has been reimagined as a vital link connecting more than 70,000 residents in the surrounding area. Neither a park nor a square, the Bentway is something unto itself – an artery that challenges traditional notions about the way we convene, converse, and celebrate together.
Site Lines explores the ongoing evolution of the Bentway site: from its innovative plan to redevelop the path as vibrant and inclusive public space, to the process behind its landscape architecture and design, as well as its infinite possibilities for immersive public programming. Tour participants will hear from multiple facilitators involved in the site’s transformation and enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at segments still under development.
