A COVID-19 Update from The Bentway
March 14, 2020 Uncategorized
With growing concerns around COVID-19 (“coronavirus”), the health, safety and well-being of our visitors and the communities we serve is our top priority.
The Bentway will remain open and available to the public, but all public programming will be suspended until further notice. As a visitor, we ask that you make the same commitment as our partners and staff, and refrain from coming to the site if you are showing any signs of illness or have travelled outside of Canada within 14 days.
To ensure The Bentway is safe for public use, we have temporarily restricted access the public washrooms in order to reduce the number of high contact areas that could pose a public health risk. We have also introduced a number of preventative measures and enhanced cleaning protocols across our site and continue to monitor the situation closely via Canada’s Public Health website.
In uncertain times, it can be beneficial to our mental and physical health to get outside and stay active. If you are considering visiting a public space, please review the below practices in order to be mindful of everyone’s safety and well-being.
Good practices for preventing COVID-19 in public spaces:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water
This is the most effective preventative measure available at the moment and of utmost importance. If soap and water is not available to you, look for an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Look, don’t touch
Refrain from touching your face, nose, mouth, or eyes until you are able to do so with clean hands and in a safe environment.
- Refrain from gathering in large groups
The City of Toronto has advised the public not to attend gatherings of more than 250 people at this time. Look to avoid crowds where possible.
- Practice social distancing
Even in small groups, consider keeping a safe distance from others. Canada’s Public Health website suggests maintaining a 2-metre distance from others to reduce the chance of spreading or contracting COVID-19.
- Cover any cough or sneeze
If possible, cough or sneeze into a tissue and immediately discard. When a tissue is not available, use your sleeve or your arm as cover, then clean or disinfect the garment.
As the situation is quickly evolving, please ensure you follow all recommendations provided by public health officials. For the latest on COVID-19, visit the Government of Canada’s website.
