At the 2019 Block Party Award-winning interdisciplinary artist and designer Sean Martindale unveiled a one-of-a-kind art installation.

The work is a series of large-scale cardboard letters, whose surfaces mimic the look of concrete, that spell out the word “to gather” or “together” through the inclusion of an optional letter A. The letters operated as an art installation, a performative work, a prompt for ongoing visitor interaction, and a staging or photo backdrop.

Martindale’s interventions activate public spaces, often using salvaged goods and live plants in unexpected ways. His playful works suggest alternate possibilities for existing spaces while focusing on ecological and social issues.
