Active Lifestyles are for Everyone

August 7, 2019

Summer at The Bentway is in full swing! From our weekly Sunday Social gatherings, shining a spotlight on Toronto’s emerging musical acts, to our delicious and diverse Communal Table dinner series, showcasing a rotating cast of chefs and cuisines every Thursday, there’s a little something for everyone at The Bentway this season.

Adding to our summer roster of free community programming is a new series of outdoor recreation classes, which gather on the Skate Trail three days a week until the end of August.

Local resident and Bentway supporter Eti Greenberg joins us Mondays and Thursdays to lead tension-reducing Tai Chi sessions, while our friends at TRIBE Fitness, bring free yoga classes to our space on Sunday evenings.

TRIBE Fitness co-founder Heather Gardner, has always found community in health and wellness. Heather began TRIBE Fitness out of a personal desire to connect with her neighbours. From there, the TRIBE community blossomed into a running group, yoga events in Heather’s neighbourhood of CityPlace, and eventually a studio at Spadina and Queens Quay West to house all their fitness offerings (check them out for yoga, cycling, running and training!).

Community-based workshops, like TRIBE’s yoga, and Eti’s Tai Chi have been a hit at The Bentway, prioritizing inclusivity as a way to welcome all levels of experience and ability. Indeed, many of our weekly class participants are first-timers, taking advantage of our free classes to gain a new experience and meet others from their local community. One participant noted that they were happy to try Tai Chi for the first time as the slow, graceful movements were the ideal accommodation for a past injury. Another was a teacher who found the day time class schedule was the perfect way to add a little physical activity into their summer vacation.
